How to rent an apartment in Astana

Cost and what's included

Rent depends on the district, renovation, size and whether it's furnished. At move-in you usually pay the first month plus a deposit (typically one month's rent). Always check whether utilities are included or paid separately by meter.

Where to look

The main platforms are Krisha.kz and OLX, plus real-estate agents. There's long-term rent (months/years) and daily rent. Private listings can be cheaper, but an agent is safer — they verify the owner and handle the contract.

What to check at the viewing

Don't rush — inspect the apartment on site:

• whether plumbing, wiring, appliances and heating work;
• the state of windows, doors and soundproofing;
• internet, parking and a lift;
• nearby infrastructure: shops, schools, transport.

A lease is a must

Always sign a written lease. Make sure it states:

• the term, the rent amount, the date and method of payment;
• the deposit amount and the terms for its return;
• who pays utilities and minor repairs;
• termination and move-out notice terms;
• an inventory of furniture/appliances and meter readings at move-in.

How to avoid scams

Never pay in advance before viewing and signing. Make sure the landlord is the owner (ask for the title documents and ID). A suspiciously low price and a request to "pay a booking online" without meeting are almost always a scam.
